This summer my boy Kadeem and I will Embark on a Tyler Perry Journey

Hey friends after spending most of the year publishing essays discussing topics like race, politics, patriarchy, and gender, I wanted to take a little break. Those topics are important, but with summer quickly approaching I thought it would be good to lighten things up a bit. To help with that, I am launching a Podcast series titled “Tyler Perry is a Genius….Maybe” (We’re still workshopping the name). Keep reading for more details.

So, what can you expect from This show? Each week, I along with my co-host, Kadeem Midgette will select a Tyler Perry film, ranging from “Diary of a MadBlack Woman” to the universally roasted, “A Fall from Grace.” We’ll watch the movie and then do a deep dive into its plot, characters, and themes. From the over-the-top melodrama to the heartwarming moments and everything in between. Along the way, we’ll share our favorite scenes, hilarious observations, and memorable quotes.
