I appreciate the brutal honesty and self-reflection. Men like you give me hope. I too have struggled to give and accept love. Loving my children has helped me heal a great deal. I was able to love them in a way that I was not. That being said, I often still associated love as transactional. I often get stuck in the mire of feeling unlovable if I am not providing "value" for those around me. I have found myself reverting to 7 or 3 or 13 years old when hurt or scared. I continue to face my demons in therapy and hope that someday I will feel worthy of the love of the people in my life.

Thank you for this!

Sherry, thank you so much for being willing to share a bit of your story as well. The path to love is a never ending journey, and if we're lucky we get to walk it. Keep doing the work, keep loving, keep discovering what love can and does mean in the world we desire!

I’m inspired and mostly comforted by your vulnerability. I feel less alone after reading this insightful article. I love your knowledge of hip-hop and how you weave it through your own life story. I share your same desires for a love so great it heals all wounds. I’m so perplexed by love I’ve started to study it from a Buddhist perspective recently. Wish me luck!

This is beautiful. Your finely crafted, sensitive, vulnerable, and heartfelt poetry pulls at my gentle heart strings; I even got teary eyed at times. The challenging nature of generational trauma leaves scars on me too, yet I still believe there’s a way to heal within the unified and collective power of people. I like your opening lines about dreamers. I love and respect the brilliant, powerful, and beautiful writing you do here. I needed to read this essay today. Thank you for sharing this important essay. Peace and happy birthday <3

Thanks bro, I appreciate you. I'm trying to center the fact that like me, he is human, so we gotta do something about it.

Happy belated birthday!

Revenge of the Nerds...I haven't thought about that series in a long time! But it does aptly describe what we are witnessing across the board especially with men. Unfortunately too many of these men have risen to prominence and power with unresolved issues that are apparent to everyone except themselves. We are experiencing on a global scale what it looks like unresolved issues lead to brokenness and vindictiveness. We see what happens when that vindictiveness and brokenness become animated by power. No one is irredeemable but sadly these men are not showing any degree of redeeming qualities whatsoever and at this rate they may never. Even of they do, they've inflicted far too much harm to expect grace on this side of heaven.
