Can you feel it in the air? We have made it to another Black History month. It’s Black history 2024 guys, we did it!
The fake jubilation probably feels ridiculous. But think about it, since the great shutdown of 2020, has anything felt promised anymore? Since then, I have had one irregular heartbeat, four Covid shots, three cases of Covid, and an upcoming big move. While that has happened the world has seen government upheavals all over the place, a war in Europe, devastation in the middle east, chaos in Haiti, crisis in he Congo, and white rage back In its prime.
There was a time where the existing felt challenging, but still good, and we are currently in a moment where things feel like they could go really left really quick. So yes, the excitement was a bit forced, but with so much pain out there, I like to find moments to smile and celebrate where I can. Ok, that was a bit of a tangent, let’s get back to the main course. Black History month.
We may not know where this country, or even the world will head next, but we for sure know where we have been, or at least some of us do. And for the month of February, we get to reflect, share, and celebrate all things Blackness, and Black history. At Let’s Not Be Trash, we would like to do this with our latest mixtape titled, “Our Ancestors Hands Do Work” this will be a series of essay’s, and conversations that highlight leaders, ideas, movements, and moments from the rich history of Blackness that inspire us.
For those of you new to my “Mix-Tape” format, it’s a digital anthology of sorts. Just this one comes with a playlist of the writer’s favorite songs. During this series, I hope you get to appreciate the diversity of Black history, concepts, debates, and people, as well as the ordinary human beings who have had an extraordinary impact upon on all of us.
Isn’t it interesting that the on,y news agencies reporting on the ‘chaos’ in Haiti are Vice Channel and Al Jereeza?
